Less than three weeks 'til Tee Time!

March is just around the corner, and so is Tee Time at the Library...less than three weeks away. Show your support for the library and have fun putting your way around the stacks with friends and family. Get your tickets online or at the desk!

Five great prizes will be raffled off, and tickets are already available at the desk. Enter early and often for a chance to win:

Prizes will be drawn at the event on Saturday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. (you need not be present to win). Tickets are $1/1 ticket, $5/6 tickets, or $20/25 tickets. Cash, check, credit cards, and Venmo accepted. There will also be a 50/50 each day, and a children's guessing contest for fun prizes.

March book clubs and movie group

Join Ciro and fellow film lovers Feb. 18 to discuss Porco Rosso, and March 18 to discuss Le Samouraï, a 1967 French film starring Alain Delon. Watch the films at home, then come chat about them.

The daytime book club meets March 4 to talk about People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks.

The evening book group meets March 11 to discuss Nickel and Dimed: On (not) getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich.

April 5: Demystifying College Admissions

Join independent education consultant Allison Berger April 5 from 2–3 p.m. for an informative session that takes the stress out of college admissions.

Allison breaks down the process into manageable pieces, covering key topics such as application timelines, financial aid and scholarships--plus insider tips to help students and families navigate the journey with confidence. There will also be time for Q&A, so bring your questions!

This free event is perfect for high school students, parents, and anyone looking for clarity on the college application process.

January private-funding update

Private-funding results are in for the first month of 2025. Let’s take a look…

This year’s target is $154,180. This figure is based on the projected gap between the budget and the funding provided by state and local municipalities.

In January, private funding totaled $7,120. Tee Time sponsorships of $3,185 and annual fund contributions of $2,580 made up the bulk.

The rest of last month's total came from sales in the Friends’ Book Nook ($622), along with $397 in general donations (including the donation box), and cash receipts of $336 for printing, lost/damaged items, etc.

We’re happy to announce that all three local municipalities served by EPL have committed to funding the library in 2025. We appreciate their continued support.

Funding from the Commonwealth of PA will remain the same for 2025.

The combined state and local funding cover approximately 66% of EPL’s budget, with private funding responsible for the remaining 33%.

Check back next month for February results. In the meantime, here are two great ways to support the library:

Tee Time at the Library — March 7 & 8: Two fun days to enjoy 18 rounds of mini-golf in the stacks with family and friends. Some awesome prize raffles have just been added as well! Get info and tickets here, or stop at the desk.

Friends’ Annual Spring Used Book Sale — April 25 & 26: The Friends’ biggest fundraiser, filled with budget-friendly books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles for all ages.

Of course, there are lots of other ways to show your support throughout the year — all of which help us to make important services and programs available free to everyone.

March 3 Pinterest Party: Shamrock decor

Pinterest parties are back! If you're feeling crafty, plan to join us March 3 to shamrock and roll on a door (or wall) decoration featuring puzzle pieces.

All supplies are provided to the first 24 participants; first come, first served. Adult supervision and assistance is required for children.

The April Pinterest craft will be some too-cute bunny candleholders made from wine glasses. Mark your calendar now for the April 7 gathering!

Celebrate the power of family with Kanopy’s collection of films that highlight the love, support, and unique experiences within the family unit. From heartwarming comedies to impactful documentaries, these films showcase the beauty and complexity of family life.

And, if you love comics and graphic novels, you'll want to explore hoopla's 'Art of Comics' this month. From vibrant panels to intricate details, this collection, along with hoopla's ActionView reading experience, is a visual feast for all! (ActionView allows users to read comics and graphic novels panel-by-panel).

Hoopla and Kanopy are free for residents of Emmaus and Macungie Boroughs and Upper Milford Township. If you live outside the EPL 'home' area, please check with your home library.
